Computer Center


The Computer Centre of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University has been established in the year 1986. The Computer centre is providing various services i.e. Software development, hardware maintenance, training etc. to teaching as well as non-teaching departments under the able guidance of  Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University.

Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University is the first University in Maharashtra to issue Computerised Degree Certificate by own software. This university is having latest Intelligent Character Recognition system for examination result processing unit. The university is having fully equipped Internet Access Centre for research activities exclusively for Teachers, students and Staff of university funded by UGC, New-Delhi.  Now the university has taken the lead to establish the Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, VOD, Document Flow Management System under the Next Generation University Project. In the world of Information Technology, our University is keeping pace with the latest technological advancements  in IT sector.

Planning

1.         Provide central computing facility  for  all  teachers, students and staff of University.
2.         Provide centralised facility for use of various research tools  training tools  and also  to  provide  the  support facilities for- research, teaching applications of  computer in  subject  field and possible assistance in  analysis  of data etc.,

3.         Acquiring  and imparting useful knowledge to the staff  to correlate and preserve literature.
4.         To maintain S/W libraries and share it among users.
5.         Dissemination  of information available at  server  for  all students and staff.
6.         To provide centralised access to library  for  periodicals, journals,  CD-ROM  databases, current  literatures,  books, text, information etc. through networking,
7.         Implementing web server and implementing shared access  of information, providing internet sharing facilities for  all teachers, students and staff etc.
8.         To implement  university web page browsing facility for two  way send/receive  the  information through  web page  for  the purpose  of  communications to administration,  research  and training through web pages.
9.         State of the Art Network for Interlinking all the Departments / Buildings of University.

Organisation


There is committee for  the Academic services unit i.e Computer Centre. The constitution of the committee under provisions of 75(4) of Maharashtra University Act, 1994,

Committees for Academic Services Unit

a)        Each Academic Services Unit of the university shall have a committee whose principal responsibility shall be to organise, oversee and maintain the services under its charge.
b)        The Committee of such unit shall consist of the following members, namely:-


(i)       the Vice Chancellor - Chairman;
(ii)      one Dean nominated by Deans from amongst themselves;
(iii)     not more than three Heads of university institutions or departments making use of the services of the unit, nominated by the Academic Council;
(iv)     one nominee of the funding agency for the unit, if any;
(v)      one expert having special knowledge of the concerned academic services, other than the employees of the university, nominated by the-Vice- Chancellor;
(vi)       Head or Director of the concerned Academic Services Unit - Secretary.

Central Computer facility

Internet Access Centre : (IAC)

UGC, New Delhi has sanctioned Rs.12.00 Lakh for establishment of Internet Access in the IXth plan period with internet facility for the P.G.Students, teaching Staff and Research fellows.

Intelligent Character Recognition System (ICR)

Latest technology to recognise Hand written and machine print has been procured which consist of three red dropout Fujitsu Scanner, two servers & 10 nodes, for examination processing work.

Training for university personnel

Arranged training program for university employee as per requirement.  Personnel from various P.G.Teaching Departments / Administrative sections has been given training for usage of internet and intranet.

Output in developing computer aided learning

Computer centre is engaged in developing software for examination section, academic section, finance section, confidential section, administration section and Post Graduate Teaching Departments of the University.

Campus Wide Network

Campus Wide Network is established using FOC and Wi-Max technology. UGC, New Delhi has given BB VSAT (256  KBPS) under UGC infonet – inflibment (ERNET, New Delhi). scheme for library for accessing research journals. This is configured in Campus Wide Network. also broad band connection of 2 mbps from BSNL is provided in campus wide network.

Maintenance of the computer centre

The University has made maintenance contract for all the computers and its peripherals and campus wide network.

  • Maintenance of Computers and its peripherals are carried out through call basis.
  • University has decided to maintain Computers and its Peripherals through Break Down Service Mechanism.

Next Generation University

UGC, New Delhi has sanctioned Rs.20.00 lacs for upgradation of Computer Centre. Nine more departments of University Teaching and Administration are brought under Campus Networking using latest networking technology. Wimax & Wi-Fi.

Services Provided by Computer Centre

The total automation of University Exam. System to improve the efficiency of working, systemize day to day working and minimize the lapses, delay and unwanted process was under consideration since 1990. Accordingly, following steps were taken and improvement so far.

    Conducted training for university employees

    Internet access centre for Teachers, students and Employees. Connectivity of BB VSAT of 256 KBPS from U.G.C.Infonet (ERNET, New Delhi) is provided in the campus wide network which facilitates access of peer review journals to the research students, post graduate students and teachers. Also, connectivity of 2 MBPS Broad Band (BSNL) is provided in the Campus Wide Network.

    Present Project undertaken

    Extension of Campus Wide Networking is in progress. The latest technology Wi-Max is used to connect the departments/ sections with the existing FOC Network. The Library building and Administrative Building will be made Wi-Fi zones. The multiplay network i.e. Video On Demand (VOD) will be configured at four locations in the campus. All above work is in progress under the Next Generation University Project. For this project following grants from funding agencies are utilized :

    Direction, Co-ordination and Reporting


    The Powers and Procedures of Academic Services Unit as approved by Management Council are:


    1.        The Committee shall meet at least twice a year, and may dispose of its business by meeting or correspondence or by both if necessary.
    2.        The agenda shall be dispatched seven clear days before the date of the meeting.
    3.        The Chairman of the Committee shall have the power to convene any special meeting of the Committee, if required.
    4.        Not less than fifteen days notice of a meeting shall be given, provided that the Vice-Chancellor may by his order, reduce the period of notice, if in his opinion, the circumstances so require,
    5.        The hours of the meeting shall be fixed by the Chairman.
    6.        In the absence of the Chairman of the Committee, the members present shall elect a Working Chairman from amongst themselves:
    7.        All questions coming up or arising before the meeting shall be decided by the majority of such members as are present and vote there at. In case of equal votes, the Chairman shall have a casting vote.
    8.        A meeting may be adjourned to the next day in order to complete unfinished business. No notice of such adjournment to the next day shall be sent to any members. At the adjourn meeting no quorum shall be necessary.
    9.        The Committee for Academic Services Unit (A.S.U.) shall have the following powers :-


    a)        To prepare apian for the working of the A.S.U. &will implement the work according to the plan.
    b)        To submit the proposal to the Management Council to equip the A.S.U. with the modern equipments and machinery so that the work of the Academic & Administration will be carried according to the plan.
    c)        To recommend the quality of the equipment with its specifications ,to be purchased for the A.S.U.

    d)       To recommend the Agency for the Annual Maintenance Contract of the equipments and machinery for the A.S.U.
    e)        To recommend the Budget Plan for the purchase and maintenance of the equipments, machinery, stationary & other Consumables.
    f)        To decide the life span of the equipments and machinery & their disposal.
    g)        To prescribe the powers & duties of the staff of the A.S.U. from time to time.
    h)        To recommend the manpower for the A.S.U. as required.


    The minutes of the Committee shall be signed by the Chairman and the Secretary.
    Secretarial Assistance shall be provided by the University.
    Copies of the minutes shall be circulated to the members within a month after the Chairman's approval.
